Course Reflection Draft

Prior to entering this class I had many thoughts about the kind of works we would be analyzing and working on as well as class projects that may take place. It’s no secret that this specific course is in fact a requirement for Psychology majors, thus my reasoning for choosing this class. After reading the title alone I thought to myself, this course is probably going to be an intense writing class solely pertaining to medical writings and research. This wasn’t the case. Although many of our readings had some sort of health aspect to it there was always many different ways in which we were allowed to interpret them, this made it fun and intriguing to actually read these pieces of work and analyze the stories. Our class also consisted on a lot of group discussion, writing, and self assessing. Group discussions were not only online but within the classroom every day. During class we were able to speak on items we read to better grasp a clear understanding. This was very effective because with the various interpretations each student always had, created a huge learning atmosphere for the entire class. Online discussions also paved the way for effective learning. It allowed us to dive deeper into the topic(s) in question and comment or question other people’s thoughts and concerns, this opened the floor for even more discussion. The writing aspect of this class came in many different forms, not every single task was your standard “paper”. Earlier in the year we were able to compose our own versions of poetry, we were given the chance to flush out our own thoughts on paper about our personal lives and many more. Both discussions and writing led to self assessment, it allowed us to indicate where we fell on this spectrum of writing.
